I said build hospital, you started with mortuary’ – Gov Eno faults contractor

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has expressed frustration over the execution of a hospital project in the state, criticising a contractor for prioritising a mortuary over essential hospital facilities. The incident was captured in a viral video circulating online on Wednesday.

In the footage, shared by Uche Nworah, former Special Adviser on General Duties to the DG of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, Governor Eno is seen addressing the contractor during an inspection visit. He pointedly reminded the contractor of the project’s priority, saying, “I said build a hospital and you started with a mortuary. Don’t say that again.”

The governor’s comments highlight his concern about project planning and sequence, stressing that the primary purpose of the project is to provide healthcare services to the community. He insisted that critical hospital infrastructure should be constructed first before ancillary facilities like the mortuary.

The video has sparked widespread reactions on social media, with many users weighing in on project management, government oversight, and priorities in public infrastructure development. The incident has also reignited discussions on accountability in public projects across Nigerian states.
