Benue Priest Appeals for Rain: “Lord, Relieve Us from Drought and Save Our Crops”

In the face of a prolonged drought that has left many Nigerian farming communities struggling, Rev. Fr. Godwin Tyagher, a Catholic priest from Benue, has turned to prayer for relief. On August 13, Fr. Tyagher shared a heartfelt appeal on Facebook, urging God to end the drought that’s withering essential crops such as maize, melon, yam, and millet.

The situation has reached a critical point, prompting both Christian and Muslim communities in Shendam Local Government Area of Plateau State to come together in prayer on August 12. Christians gathered in churches, while Muslims assembled at the Eid ground, each group seeking divine intervention to bring much-needed rain.

Fr. Tyagher’s prayer reflects the growing desperation among farmers and residents. He beseeched God to show mercy and lift the drought, expressing concern over the severe hardships and potential hunger that could result from continued dry conditions. His prayer emphasized the urgent need for rain to restore life and peace to the affected areas.

As the drought continues, the call for divine assistance highlights the dire need for solutions to protect crops and ensure food security for the coming year.
