A chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Buba Galadima, has strongly condemned the defection of Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing it as an unprecedented act of betrayal. Galadima said the governor’s action has deeply disappointed party members and the people of Kano State who trusted the NNPP with their mandate.
Speaking on Prime Time, a programme on Arise Television, Galadima said the defection should be recorded in the Guinness World Records as the worst political betrayal ever. He jokingly suggested that January 23, the day Governor Yusuf resigned from the NNPP, should be marked annually as “World Betrayal Day” because of the impact of the decision.
The NNPP stalwart argued that Yusuf’s move was driven by personal interest rather than the will of the people. According to him, Kano voters overwhelmingly supported the NNPP and stood by the governor through legal battles after the election, making the defection a serious violation of trust.
Galadima, who described himself as an elder statesman, said the incident affected him deeply. He compared Yusuf’s action to historic betrayals, claiming it ranked alongside Judas’ betrayal of Jesus Christ and Brutus’ betrayal of Julius Caesar, stressing that such a move would not be forgotten by history.
