United States President Donald Trump has thanked Venezuelan leaders for their recent release of political prisoners, calling it a powerful humanitarian gesture and a positive sign in relations between the two countries. Trump made the remarks on his Truth Social platform, saying he was pleased that Venezuela was freeing detainees at a “rapid rate.” 

The mass release has taken place as part of a broader shift in Venezuela after the capture of former President Nicolás Maduro and leadership changes there. Human rights group Foro Penal has reported that more than 100 political prisoners were freed in recent days, with releases continuing under the interim authorities. 

In his message, Trump expressed gratitude to the Venezuelan leadership for agreeing to the release and described it as a meaningful step forward. He said the move showed a willingness to take positive action and help ease human suffering, highlighting the importance of humanitarian gestures in international relations. 

The ongoing releases have drawn attention from rights groups and foreign governments, with some welcoming the trend and urging that even more detainees still held in Venezuela be freed. Families of others who remain imprisoned have also continued advocating for complete release, demonstrating the broader impact of the development on Venezuelan society and international diplomacy.
