Kano Gov, Yusuf officially defects to APC

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a major political shift in the state’s leadership. The announcement was made during a well-attended event in Kano, where top APC leaders, party supporters, and government officials gathered to witness the defection.

Governor Yusuf said his decision was driven by the need to align Kano State with the federal government and attract more development to the state. He explained that joining the APC would help strengthen cooperation with the centre, improve access to federal projects, and promote stability in governance. According to him, politics should be about the welfare of the people, not personal or party interests.

APC leaders welcomed Yusuf into the party, describing his defection as a big boost ahead of future elections. They praised his leadership style and expressed confidence that his move would further strengthen the APC’s structure in Kano and across the North-West. Party stakeholders also assured the governor of full support as he settles into his new political platform.

Political observers say Yusuf’s defection could reshape Kano’s political landscape and influence alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections. Supporters believe the move will bring unity and more development to the state, while critics say it reflects the growing trend of political realignments driven by power calculations at the national level.
