Kwara: Bandits under fire as military intensifies operations

The Nigerian military has intensified its operations against bandits and kidnappers in Kwara State, recording fresh successes in parts of Edu, Ifelodun, and Patigi Local Government Areas. Security sources confirmed that several terrorist hideouts were overrun during coordinated offensives aimed at restoring peace to the affected communities.

According to preliminary reports, the renewed offensive targeted camps belonging to notorious criminal groups operating in Baba Sango (Ifelodun), Gbugbu (Edu), and Lata (Patigi). The operations, carried out under Operation India, reportedly forced the bandits out of their strongholds, leaving them disorganised and on the run.

Military insiders disclosed that many of the criminals were neutralised, while others sustained injuries as several camps were destroyed. However, the success of the operations has been challenged by the activities of informants within some communities, who allegedly leak information about troop movements to the bandits.

The military has therefore appealed to residents to remain alert and support security efforts by reporting suspicious activities and individuals. According to a source, community cooperation is critical to sustaining the momentum of the operations and ensuring lasting security across the affected parts of Kwara State.
