A serious fire outbreak has destroyed a residential building at Block D5, Ifedapo Estate in the Amuloko area of Ibadan, Oyo State, leaving residents counting heavy losses. The fire completely razed a six-room bungalow and destroyed household items and valuables estimated to be worth millions of naira.
Confirming the incident, the Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Mr. Moroof Akinwande, said the fire occurred on Friday afternoon. He explained that the agency received an emergency call at about 2:53 p.m. and immediately dispatched firefighters, led by Assistant Chief Fire Superintendent Amoo, to the scene.
According to Akinwande, the building was already fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. However, their swift response helped to stop the fire from spreading to nearby houses within the estate. He added that no life was lost in the incident, which brought relief to residents of the area.
Preliminary findings showed that the fire was caused by an unattended domestic gas cylinder that exploded and spread rapidly across the building. Akinwande advised residents to handle cooking gas carefully and always report fire emergencies early, stressing that quick and accurate information helps firefighters respond effectively.
