Phrank Shaibu, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has criticised the presidency over what he described as repeated errors and poor handling of official appointments. His reaction followed the announcement and sudden reversal of Usman Dakingari’s nomination as Nigeria’s ambassador to Turkey, a move that was withdrawn shortly after it was made public.
In a post on X, Shaibu said the incident exposed a troubling pattern of confusion within the current administration. He described the reversal as the 11th public correction by the presidency, arguing that such actions undermine confidence in government processes. According to him, reversing sensitive announcements without explanation creates uncertainty and shows a lack of respect for public institutions.
Shaibu further accused the presidency of being distracted by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party’s Peter Obi, instead of focusing on effective governance. He argued that Nigerians are dealing with serious economic challenges, yet the government appears more interested in political rivalries than administrative competence.
He also recalled past cases where, according to him, errors in appointments embarrassed individuals and damaged public trust. Shaibu urged the presidency to adopt higher standards, stressing that serious governments verify decisions before announcing them and clearly explain mistakes when they occur, rather than quietly withdrawing statements.
