Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Bauchi State have intercepted a truck conveying vandalised railway materials and arrested five suspects in connection with the crime. The operation was carried out following credible intelligence that led officers to trail the truck before stopping it along a major route in the state.
According to the NSCDC, the intercepted vehicle was loaded with damaged railway tracks believed to have been illegally removed from rail lines meant for public use. Officials said the action was part of ongoing efforts to protect critical national assets and infrastructure from vandalism and theft, which have continued to pose serious risks to public safety and economic activities.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly conspired to vandalise the railway tracks with the intention of selling them as scrap. The corps noted that such acts not only undermine government investment in rail transport but also endanger lives by weakening railway operations and safety standards.
The NSCDC assured the public that the suspects would be properly investigated and charged to court. The corps also warned vandals and criminal elements to desist from attacking public infrastructure, stressing that it would intensify surveillance and enforcement across Bauchi State and beyond to safeguard national assets.
