UCL: ‘They’ll beat them home, away’ – Pennant names EPL club to knock Arsenal out

Former Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant has predicted that Liverpool would knock Arsenal out if both sides meet in the knockout stage of the UEFA Champions League. Speaking after Liverpool’s convincing 3–0 win over Marseille, Pennant said the Reds’ strong European pedigree gives them a clear edge over the Gunners in high-pressure continental games.

Liverpool are close to finishing in the top eight of the Champions League league phase, while Arsenal have already secured a place in the round of 16 and currently sit top of the standings. Despite Arsenal’s impressive form, Pennant believes Liverpool are a different team in Europe. He argued that the Reds often perform better in the Champions League than in the Premier League because of their experience and history in the competition.

According to Pennant, Liverpool’s six Champions League titles count for a lot when it comes to two-legged knockout ties. He said the club understands what it takes to manage difficult away games and make full use of the Anfield atmosphere at home. Pennant added that a Champions League night at Anfield is intimidating for any opponent and could tilt the balance against Arsenal.

He also warned that strong league-phase performances do not guarantee success in the tournament. Drawing a comparison with Paris Saint-Germain’s past Champions League run, Pennant noted that teams can struggle early but still go on to win the trophy. In his view, Liverpool’s experience and mentality make them more likely than Arsenal to go all the way if the two English sides clash.
