2027: We will avoid what happened in Ekiti – Oyo PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State has assured its members and supporters that it will not repeat the internal problems that recently affected the party in Ekiti State. The party said lessons have been learnt from the Ekiti situation and promised to take proactive steps ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The crisis in Ekiti followed prolonged internal disputes within the PDP, which reportedly led the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to exclude the party’s candidate from the forthcoming governorship election. The development raised concerns among party stakeholders across the South-West about internal unity and compliance with electoral laws.

Reacting to the situation, the Chairman of the Oyo State PDP Caretaker Committee, Professor Abdulrahman Akinoso, said the party in Oyo would ensure that all processes are completed within the time frame required by law. He explained that the Ekiti exclusion was mainly due to the failure to submit a valid candidate within the stipulated period.

Professor Akinoso stressed that the Oyo PDP is committed to internal democracy and proper coordination. He assured party members that the caretaker committee is already working diligently to present legally recognised candidates in the 2027 elections, adding that such setbacks must be avoided to protect the party’s image and electoral chances.
