A man identified simply as Mr Segiru has regained his freedom two months after he was abducted by gunmen in Edo State. The victim was released on Wednesday, bringing relief to his family after weeks of uncertainty and distress following the incident.
Mr Segiru and his wife, Mrs Zainab, were kidnapped on November 22, 2025, at Aviele community near Auchi, in Etsako West Local Government Area. After the abduction, the kidnappers circulated a video showing the couple in captivity and demanded a ransom of ₦50 million for their release.
In the video, the victims were seen pleading for help, with Mrs Zainab, who was pregnant at the time, appealing emotionally for assistance. Sources disclosed that despite the high ransom demand, the family could only raise about ₦7 million to negotiate with the abductors.
Mrs Zainab was earlier freed after a ransom was reportedly paid, while Mr Segiru remained in captivity until his release this week. The development has again drawn attention to the persistent challenge of kidnapping in Edo State and calls for stronger security measures to protect residents.
