Wike-backed PDP NWC inaugurates LG caretaker committees in Lagos

The factional Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Working Committee (NWC) loyal to Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mr. Nyesom Wike, has inaugurated Local Government Area (LGA) Caretaker Committees across all 20 council areas in Lagos State. The inauguration, which took place on Wednesday, highlights the ongoing national leadership crisis within the party.

The Wike-aligned NWC, led by Alhaji Abdulrahman Mohammed as National Chairman and Senator Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary, had recently dissolved state executives in several states, including Lagos, amid the factional disputes. The inauguration of the caretaker committees signals the faction’s efforts to consolidate influence at the grassroots level.

Speaking at the ceremony in Ikeja, Deputy National Secretary, Mr. Adedeji Doherty, who represented the National Chairman, urged the new committees to rebuild and strengthen the party at local, ward, and zonal levels. Doherty, a former Lagos PDP chairman and governorship candidate, emphasized the importance of hard work and tangible results.

He said, “This is a special work and call. We have chosen you, and you will also select others to carry the party structures to every ward and zone. The work you are going for is a special one; we must not take it with levity. We must get results.” The factional move underscores ongoing tensions within the PDP as it prepares for future elections.
