The Adamawa State Government has confirmed significant losses suffered by traders after a fire razed a large section of the Kasuwan Dadi Grains Market in Dumne, Song Local Government Area. The fire occurred in the early hours of Monday, January 19, catching residents and traders off guard while most were asleep.
Deputy Governor Professor Kaletapwa Farauta visited the site on Wednesday and met with affected traders, describing the incident as devastating for the more than 60 shops destroyed. She expressed concern over the potential economic impact on the state and urged residents to exercise caution during the dry harmattan season.
While the cause of the fire remains unknown, Farauta warned residents against careless burning of refuse and bushes, and reminded traders to ensure all fires are completely extinguished at the end of the day. She also thanked God that no lives were lost in the incident.
The Gubo Yungur, John Dio Matalo, along with other government officials including the Secretary to the State Government Awwal Tukur, the Chief of Staff Dr. Edgar Sunday, and the Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, visited the market. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, as authorities work to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
