2027: PDP can’t be ruled out – Segun Sowunmi

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Segun Sowunmi, has said the party should not be dismissed ahead of the 2027 general elections. According to him, despite its challenges, the PDP remains a major political force with the capacity to compete strongly at the national level.

Sowunmi made this known while speaking during a television interview, where he stressed that political relevance is not determined by temporary setbacks. He explained that PDP still has experienced leaders, loyal supporters, and strong structures across the country that can be reactivated before the next election cycle.

He noted that Nigerian politics is dynamic and unpredictable, adding that parties often regain strength when least expected. According to him, the PDP has survived past crises and remains one of the few parties with nationwide spread and deep political experience.

Sowunmi urged party members to focus on unity, internal reforms, and reconnecting with voters. He said if the PDP addresses its internal disagreements and presents credible leadership, it can re-emerge as a serious contender in the 2027 presidential election.
