Morocco’s goalkeeper, Yassine Bounou, has praised the Super Eagles of Nigeria after they defeated his team 4–2 on penalties at the Africa Cup of Nations. The match ended goalless after regulation time and extra time, before Nigeria held their nerve to win the shootout and move forward in the competition.
Speaking after the game, Bounou said Nigeria showed great character, discipline and confidence under pressure. He noted that the Super Eagles players were calm during the penalties and took their chances well, which made the difference on the night.
The Moroccan keeper also commended Nigeria’s defence and midfield for keeping his team quiet during open play. He admitted that Morocco tried to push forward but found it difficult to break down Nigeria’s well-organised shape and quick transitions.
Bounou concluded by wishing Nigeria success in the rest of the tournament, saying the Super Eagles deserve their place in the next round. His comments have been welcomed by Nigerian fans as a sign of respect from a top international goalkeeper.
