Super Eagles players, Troost-Ekong and Alex Iwobi, along with Nottingham Forest’s Ola Aina, have lauded their team’s diamond formation in midfield, describing it as effective in controlling games at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. The players emphasized that the tactical setup has allowed Nigeria to dominate possession and create scoring opportunities.
The diamond midfield, according to the Super Eagles players, has helped in linking defense and attack seamlessly, providing better support for both forwards and defensive players. They highlighted that this formation allows for more fluid passing, better ball retention, and efficient transitions during matches.
Coach Eric Chelle also commended the strategy, noting that the diamond formation has been instrumental in Nigeria’s strong performance so far in the tournament. He explained that the setup maximizes the strengths of key midfielders, ensuring both defensive stability and offensive creativity.
The players expressed confidence that maintaining the diamond midfield approach will be crucial as Nigeria prepares for the upcoming knockout stages. They also stressed the importance of teamwork and communication in making the formation successful against tough opponents.
