Afrobeats star and activist Seun Kuti has claimed that popular singer Wizkid took inspiration from his own stage name. Seun made the statement during a recent interview where he spoke about the early days of Nigerian music and how artists influenced one another while building their careers.
According to Seun, he had been using his stage identity publicly long before Wizkid became famous. He said younger musicians at the time often looked up to him and others in the industry, and sometimes adopted similar names, styles or branding as a form of admiration and inspiration.
Seun, however, did not present the claim as an attack. He explained that copying or borrowing ideas is common in music and entertainment, especially when new artists are trying to find their identity. He added that what matters most is how each artist grows and creates something unique with time.
The statement has since sparked discussions online, with fans debating whether Wizkid’s name was influenced by Seun Kuti or simply a coincidence. Neither Wizkid nor his team has responded to the claim as of the time of this report.
