The Lagos State Government has arrested a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) driver after a pedestrian was knocked down and killed at the Ikeja Airport Junction. Officials said the accident happened when the bus was moving through the busy intersection, leading to the death of the victim on the spot.
Emergency officers and traffic officials were quickly sent to the scene to manage the situation and restore order. The pedestrian’s body was taken away, while the driver involved in the crash was taken into custody for questioning and further investigation.
The government said it would carry out a full inquiry to understand what led to the accident and to know whether traffic rules were violated. Authorities also promised that appropriate action would be taken if the driver is found guilty of negligence or reckless driving.
Lagos officials used the incident to remind all commercial drivers to obey traffic laws and drive carefully, especially around busy junctions and pedestrian crossings. They urged road users to remain cautious and patient to avoid similar tragedies in the future.
