Former Super Eagles captain and coach, Sunday Oliseh, has identified one Nigerian player as the most important figure in the team at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations. Oliseh said the player stands out because of his positive style of play, noting that he “hardly passes backward” and always looks to move the team forward.
According to Oliseh, this approach has helped Nigeria maintain attacking momentum and put opponents under constant pressure. He explained that the player’s confidence on the ball, quick decision-making and willingness to take responsibility have been vital to the Super Eagles’ performances so far.
Oliseh also pointed out that the player’s influence goes beyond goals or assists, as he helps control the tempo of matches and connects the midfield with the attack. This, he said, gives Nigeria better balance and makes the team more dangerous in transition.
He concluded by stressing that while football is a team sport and every player matters, having someone with such a forward-thinking mentality can make a big difference in tournament football, especially in tight and competitive games like those at AFCON.
