AFCON 2025: CAF confirms investigation into games involving Nigeria, Morocco, Cameroon

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed that it is investigating incidents in at least two matches at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025. The governing body warned on Monday that disciplinary action could follow depending on the outcome of its investigations.

CAF stated that the last-eight match between Nigeria and Algeria is under review after reports of player clashes at full time and an altercation involving the referee in the tunnel. The disciplinary board will examine the conduct of those involved and determine any necessary sanctions.

Another quarter-final clash between Morocco and Cameroon is also being investigated. The review comes after Cameroonian players protested angrily over a denied penalty in the second half, which sparked on-field tension and disputes with the officials.

CAF emphasized that both incidents have been referred to its disciplinary board for proper examination. The organization assured fans and teams that appropriate action will be taken if any individuals are found guilty of misconduct during the games.
