A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has said President Bola Tinubu can be defeated in the 2027 general elections if opposition parties organise themselves properly. He made the statement during an interview on Arise Television, where he argued that elections are about numbers, planning, and unity, not just popularity.
Momodu explained that the opposition must “get its mathematics right,” meaning they must build strong alliances across regions, avoid internal conflicts, and present a single, credible candidate. According to him, a divided opposition will only strengthen the ruling party’s chances of retaining power.
He added that the ADC is currently repositioning itself through internal reforms, including a constitutional review and efforts to build a broad coalition. Momodu said the goal is to avoid the mistakes of past opposition movements, which often collapsed because of lack of discipline, selfish interests, and poor coordination.
The media entrepreneur stressed that discipline, unity, and strategic candidate selection are key to challenging the APC successfully in 2027. He said a coalition must be built on equality and trust, not on domination by any single group, if it is to inspire Nigerians and win their confidence.
