The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has clarified that the new tax reform is not intended to punish low-income earners or overburden struggling Nigerians. The party condemned what it described as misinformation, political sensationalism, and deliberate attempts to mislead the public about the reform.

APC Lagos spokesman, Seye Oladejo, emphasized that the new tax system is designed to protect low-income earners, expand exemptions, and introduce a progressive, fair, and humane approach aligned with global best practices. “Nigerians within the lowest income brackets are either fully exempt or will see reduced tax exposure under the new regime,” Oladejo said.

He added that the reform is focused on efficiency, equity, and accountability rather than punishment. For businesses, especially Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), it simplifies compliance, eliminates nuisance taxes, and ensures a more predictable fiscal environment. For large corporations, the law promotes fairness, ensuring profitable entities contribute their fair share to national development.

Oladejo concluded that the tax reform is pro-growth, pro-investment, and designed to modernize Nigeria’s economy, which has long relied on a fragmented, oil-dependent tax system. According to him, the policy benefits citizens and businesses alike, encouraging compliance and economic growth.
