Chuba Iwobi, father of Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi, has shared insights on the lasting influence of former Nigerian football star Jay-Jay Okocha on his son’s career. He described Okocha as a key inspiration during Alex’s formative years, shaping his style of play and love for football.
According to Chuba, Alex grew up watching videos of Okocha and trying to emulate his flair, creativity, and ball control. “Jay-Jay was someone Alex looked up to since he was young. He studied his moves and tried to bring that elegance to his own game,” Chuba said.
He further explained that the influence went beyond skills, noting that Okocha’s leadership and professionalism set an example for Alex on and off the pitch. Chuba believes this mentorship, even if indirect, contributed significantly to Alex’s rise to international football prominence.
As the Super Eagles gear up for the ongoing AFCON tournament, Chuba Iwobi expressed pride in his son’s achievements and hopes that Alex continues to honor the legacy of Nigerian football icons like Okocha.
