A coalition of civil society groups has called for the public release of former Zamfara State governor Abdulaziz Yari’s asset declarations following his reported involvement in the Geregu Power project. The group says Nigerians deserve to know the financial interests of public office holders, especially when they are linked to major national infrastructure.
The coalition argues that transparency is essential to prevent conflicts of interest and build trust in government. According to the group, making asset declarations public will help citizens confirm that public officials are not using their positions for personal gain.
They also said the Geregu Power project is strategic to Nigeria’s electricity supply and therefore requires a high level of accountability from everyone connected to it. The coalition stressed that openness would strengthen investor confidence and improve governance standards.
So far, Yari has not publicly responded to the call. However, the coalition says it will continue to push for transparency and urges relevant agencies to support the demand in line with existing laws and anti-corruption principles.
