A fire outbreak has destroyed parts of the staff quarters at the Government Girls Secondary School (GGSS) in Katsina State. The incident happened suddenly and caused significant damage to some residential buildings within the school premises.
Residents and school staff were alerted by smoke and quickly raised an alarm. Firefighters and local volunteers responded to the scene and worked together to control the fire before it spread further to other parts of the school.
Although no casualties were reported, several personal belongings and household items were lost in the blaze. School authorities have begun assessing the level of damage and identifying those affected so that support can be provided.
The state government and emergency agencies have promised to investigate the cause of the fire and take steps to prevent similar incidents in the future. Residents have been advised to observe safety measures, especially regarding electrical appliances and cooking equipment.
