AFCON: Super Eagles Suffer Major Blow As Chelle Confirms Nwabali Injury

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have received worrying news ahead of their final group match at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after head coach Eric Chelle confirmed that first-choice goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali is injured. The coach revealed that Nwabali is dealing with both knee and ankle problems, which may keep him out of the match against Uganda.

Chelle made the announcement while speaking to journalists before Tuesday’s game. He said the coaching crew will carefully assess Nwabali’s condition after the team’s final training session before deciding whether he is fit enough to play or needs to be rested.

Despite the setback, the coach expressed confidence in his squad and said the team would adjust if necessary. He stressed that the focus remains on preparing well and keeping the team balanced, regardless of who starts in goal.

Nigeria currently sits at the top of Group C with six points and has already qualified for the round of 16 after defeating Tunisia. However, the injury concern has slightly dampened the mood as fans hope for a full recovery for the goalkeeper and a strong performance against Uganda.
