Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has described the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) as better and more competitive than many football leagues in Europe. He said the tournament brings together the best talents from across Africa and delivers high-quality football that deserves more global recognition.
Chelle explained that AFCON matches are physically demanding, tactically intense, and emotionally charged, making them difficult for any team to dominate. According to him, the pressure and passion involved in AFCON games often exceed what players experience in regular European league matches.
The coach also noted that African teams are now more organised, disciplined, and technically sound than ever before. He added that many AFCON players are stars in top European clubs, which shows the tournament reflects elite-level football standards.
Chelle urged football fans and analysts to stop underrating African football and start appreciating AFCON for what it truly is — a world-class competition that showcases skill, resilience, and national pride across the continent.
