Man City beat Manchester United on Penalty Shootout to win Community Shield

Manchester City clinched the Community Shield in a dramatic penalty shootout against Manchester United, winning 7-6 on penalties after a 1-1 draw at Wembley Stadium on Saturday.

The game heated up in the final 10 minutes when United’s Alejandro Garnacho scored in the 82nd minute. He received a pass from Bruno Fernandes, cut inside, and delivered a precise shot that beat City’s goalkeeper Ederson. However, City responded with a late equalizer. Bernardo Silva, another City substitute, scored with a powerful header from a cross by Oscar Bobb, sending the match into penalties.

In the shootout, City secured their victory when Jonny Evans’ chip set up Manuel Akanji to score the decisive penalty. This win allowed City to avenge their FA Cup defeat to United and avoid a second consecutive loss at Wembley.

After the match, United’s manager Erik ten Hag commented on the importance of this loss. He said the team needs to feel the pain of this defeat to drive them in the Premier League season. “When the performance is right, and when you lose, everyone feels this. It hurts in your stomach. You have to feel pain, and we have to hurt. We have to take this belief into the league,” he noted.

On the other hand, City’s manager Pep Guardiola expressed his pleasure at starting the new season with a title. “To start the season with a title is good. We are really pleased. It is nice to play this game because it means you won something in the previous season. Now we see how the players come back. The target now is not to win the Premier League. It is ‘OK, next game, try and win it’. This is what we have to do,” he said.

This thrilling victory highlights City’s resilience and sets an exciting tone for the new season.
