Wike’s PDP faction appoints Caretaker Committee in Oyo

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) linked to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has announced the appointment of a Caretaker Committee to oversee party affairs in Oyo State. The move is part of ongoing disagreements within the party over leadership and control of party structures at the state level.

According to the group, the caretaker team was created to stabilise the party, resolve internal disputes and prepare the ground for future political activities. They said the committee will temporarily manage the party’s operations in Oyo until issues within the party are settled and proper congresses can be organised.

The decision has further exposed the deep divisions within the PDP, especially between groups loyal to Wike and those aligned with Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde. While the Wike faction insists its action is legal and necessary, the opposing camp is yet to formally accept the arrangement.

Political observers say the development may affect the party’s unity and strength ahead of future elections in the state. Many party supporters are now calling for dialogue and reconciliation to prevent the crisis from weakening the PDP in Oyo and beyond.
