You lack power to suspend us’ – PDP BoT members to Wabara

Some members of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have pushed back against a reported move by BoT Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, to suspend them, insisting that he does not have the constitutional power to do so. The aggrieved members said any attempt to suspend them would be invalid and against the party’s rules.

In a joint reaction, the BoT members stated that the PDP constitution clearly spells out disciplinary procedures and that no single individual, including the BoT chairman, can act unilaterally in such matters. They warned that arbitrary actions could deepen internal tensions and further weaken the party ahead of future elections.

The members also called on the party leadership to respect internal democracy, due process and dialogue in resolving disagreements. According to them, the PDP needs unity and adherence to its own rules rather than actions that could be seen as intimidation or power abuse.

The development highlights the ongoing internal struggles within the PDP, as different blocs jostle for influence and control. Political observers say how the party manages this dispute could determine whether it regains stability or slides deeper into crisis.
