Court grants Malami interim bail, adjourns case to Jan 5

A Nigerian court has granted former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, interim bail while his case has been postponed to January 5. The court said the bail was temporary and would allow him remain free pending further hearing on the matter.

The judge explained that the adjournment was necessary to give both the prosecution and defence more time to prepare their arguments and complete all required filings before the next sitting. The court also set conditions attached to Malami’s bail, which he is expected to meet.

Malami appeared in court alongside his legal team, while officials of the prosecuting agency were also present. The case, which has attracted public attention, is part of ongoing legal processes involving some former public office holders.

Observers say the outcome of the next hearing could determine whether the case proceeds to full trial or if other legal options will be considered. The court is expected to take more substantive steps when it reconvenes on January 5.
