There’s Plot To Arrest Atiku, Amaechi, Key Opposition Figures — Adekunle Adebayo

A public affairs analyst, Adekunle Adebayo, has warned Nigerians about an alleged plan to arrest and intimidate major opposition figures in the country. According to him, the move is aimed at weakening political opposition and pushing Nigeria toward a one-party system ahead of future elections.

Adebayo claimed that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, and ex-Kaduna State Governor Nasir el-Rufai are among those reportedly being targeted. He also mentioned other political figures such as Isa Ali Pantami, Rauf Aregbesola, Kashim Ibrahim Imam and others as possible targets of the alleged plan.

He said the development follows earlier arrests and detentions of former leaders, including Aminu Tambuwal, Chris Ngige and former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami. Adebayo warned that arresting people based on political affiliation would amount to abuse of power and could seriously damage Nigeria’s democratic system.

The activist urged Nigerians, civil society groups and the international community to pay close attention to what is happening. He warned that if such actions continue, Nigeria risks becoming a country where democracy exists only on paper while political power is enforced through fear and selective justice.
