Suspected bandits have attacked an outpost of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Niger State, carting away a service rifle. The incident reportedly happened at night when the attackers stormed the location and overpowered the officers on duty before fleeing.
Security sources said the assailants arrived suddenly and caused panic in the area. Although no loss of life was reported, the attackers succeeded in stealing a rifle belonging to the NSCDC. The incident has raised fresh concerns about the safety of security formations in rural communities.
Following the attack, security agencies launched a manhunt for the suspects. Authorities said efforts are ongoing to recover the stolen weapon and arrest those responsible. Patrols have also been strengthened around the area to prevent further attacks.
Residents have been urged to remain calm and cooperate with security operatives by sharing useful information. The NSCDC reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property despite the growing security challenges in parts of Niger State.
