The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested masquerades involved in unlawful activities, violating the state government’s Executive Order that restricts masquerade outings to approved locations with mandatory police permission. The arrests were part of a broader security enforcement aimed at maintaining public safety and reducing violence in the state.
Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, disclosed during a press briefing in Uyo that enforcing the Executive Order helped curb disorder and illegal gatherings. He praised the collaborative efforts between the police, local communities, and other agencies for ensuring peace and stability across Akwa Ibom throughout 2025.
The police also recorded major operational successes, including arrests related to armed robbery, cultism, and kidnapping. In addition, officers recovered 179 assorted arms, 323 different ammunition types, and 100 live cartridges, dismantling several criminal hideouts and addressing known black spots in the state.
CP Azare further warned against the spread of misinformation, noting arrests were made for circulating false news capable of causing panic. He reaffirmed the police command’s commitment to maintaining law and order and urged the public to cooperate with security agencies for a safer 2026.
