Afenifere chieftain, Opadokun identifies those sponsoring terrorism in Nigeria
A chieftain of the pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, Chief Ayo Opadokun, has raised fresh concerns over insecurity in Nigeria, claiming that terrorism in the country is being supported by powerful individuals. He alleged that the persistence of violent attacks is not accidental but sustained by people with access to influence and resources.
According to Opadokun, these alleged sponsors benefit from the instability created by terrorism, making it difficult for security agencies to fully address the problem. He argued that without confronting those behind the scenes, efforts to defeat terrorism would remain ineffective, no matter how many arrests are made on the ground.
The Afenifere chieftain stressed that Nigeria’s fight against terrorism requires political courage and transparency. He called on the federal government to move beyond rhetoric and take decisive action against anyone found to be financing or protecting violent groups, regardless of their status or connections.
Opadokun also urged citizens to remain vigilant and demand accountability from leaders. He maintained that ending terrorism is possible if the government shows genuine commitment, strengthens intelligence gathering, and ensures that justice is applied equally to all, without fear or favour.
