Nigeria’s National Security Adviser (NSA) has directed state governors and police authorities to strengthen special security measures across the country. The call comes amid growing concerns over safety, with the NSA stressing the need for closer cooperation between state governments and security agencies to protect lives and property.
According to the NSA, governors must take more responsibility as chief security officers of their states by supporting intelligence gathering and providing logistics for security operations. He emphasized that effective security requires joint planning, quick information sharing, and constant communication between the police, other security agencies, and state authorities.
The police were also urged to increase patrols, respond swiftly to threats, and ensure professionalism in handling security challenges. The NSA noted that proactive policing and early detection of risks would help prevent crimes before they escalate, especially in vulnerable communities.
Governors and security chiefs at the meeting reportedly agreed to adopt coordinated strategies tailored to their states’ peculiar challenges. The NSA assured Nigerians that the federal government remains committed to improving national security and urged citizens to cooperate with security agencies by sharing useful information.
