Kwara Assembly suspends member for exposing details of closed door meeting

The Kwara State House of Assembly has suspended one of its members after he disclosed details of a confidential closed-door meeting. The assembly described the action as a breach of legislative protocol, stressing the importance of maintaining confidentiality during internal discussions.

According to the Speaker, the suspension serves as a reminder to all lawmakers about the need to respect the assembly’s rules and procedures. He emphasized that transparency to the public must be balanced with the responsibility to safeguard sensitive legislative deliberations.

The suspended member reportedly shared information from the private session with the media, which the assembly argued could compromise ongoing discussions and decision-making processes. Colleagues expressed disappointment, highlighting the potential negative impact on the credibility of the legislative body.

The Kwara Assembly has indicated that it will review its internal policies to prevent similar breaches in the future. Lawmakers called on all members to exercise discretion and uphold the decorum expected in the state legislature.
