An aide to Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has filed a ₦500 million lawsuit against a member of the opposition over alleged defamation. The case, filed at a competent court, is linked to statements the aide claims damaged his reputation and standing in public service.
According to court documents, the claimant accused the opposition figure of making false and harmful remarks through public comments and online platforms. The aide insisted that the statements were misleading, malicious, and intended to lower his image in the eyes of the public and political associates.
The suit is asking the court to declare the statements defamatory and to order a public apology. The claimant is also seeking financial compensation of ₦500 million as damages for reputational harm and emotional distress allegedly caused by the remarks.
Meanwhile, the opposition member is yet to formally respond to the allegations. The case has continued to draw attention within Abia’s political space, as observers await the court’s decision on the high-profile defamation claim.
