NDLEA secures court order to detain vessel, crew over N25.5kg cocaine seizure at Lagos port

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has secured a court order to detain a vessel and its crew following the seizure of 25.5 kilograms of cocaine at a Lagos port. The operation, carried out in collaboration with port authorities, highlights the agency’s commitment to curbing drug trafficking in Nigeria.

The court order, obtained on Wednesday, allows the NDLEA to hold the vessel and all crew members for further investigation and prosecution. Officials stated that the seizure represents a significant breakthrough in the fight against narcotics entering the country.

Authorities revealed that the cocaine, concealed in the ship’s cargo, was intercepted after intelligence-led operations and routine checks at the port. The detained crew members are expected to face stringent legal action under Nigeria’s anti-drug laws.

NDLEA called on the public and maritime stakeholders to cooperate in reporting suspicious activities, stressing that the agency will continue to take decisive action against drug traffickers. The successful seizure is being hailed as a warning to criminals attempting to smuggle illegal substances through Nigerian ports.
