Anti-corruption: EFCC must not be cowed – Coalition

A coalition of civil society groups has urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) not to be intimidated or pressured in its fight against corruption. The group said the agency must remain bold and independent, especially as it handles high-profile cases involving powerful individuals.

According to the coalition, attempts to distract or weaken the EFCC through public attacks, court actions, or political influence are harmful to Nigeria’s anti-corruption drive. The group stressed that corruption remains one of the biggest problems facing the country and warned that backing down now would damage public trust.

The coalition also called on the Federal Government and the judiciary to fully support the EFCC. It noted that strong institutions are needed to tackle financial crimes and ensure accountability at all levels of governance. Citizens were encouraged to speak up and stand with the commission in its lawful duties.

While acknowledging that the EFCC must operate within the law, the coalition insisted that due process should not be used as an excuse to shield corrupt practices. It urged the agency to continue its investigations without fear or favour for the good of the nation.
