Prosecute 10 soldiers, 400 terrorism financiers – Falana writes AGF

Human rights lawyer and activist, Femi Falana (SAN), has written to the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), urging the Federal Government to prosecute 10 serving soldiers and about 400 individuals allegedly involved in financing terrorism. Falana said the cases had already been investigated by security agencies but were yet to be taken to court.

In his letter, Falana expressed concern over what he described as a lack of political will to pursue terrorism-related prosecutions. He noted that while suspects are frequently arrested and publicly paraded, many cases fail to reach the trial stage, allowing alleged offenders to escape justice.

The senior advocate stressed that terrorism financing poses a serious threat to national security and must be treated with urgency. According to him, prosecuting both the soldiers and civilian financiers would send a strong message that no one is above the law, regardless of status or position.

Falana called on the AGF to act in the interest of justice and national safety by ensuring that all suspects face trial in accordance with the law. He added that decisive legal action would strengthen public confidence and support ongoing efforts to combat terrorism in Nigeria.
