Rivers Speaker, 15 other assembly members dump PDP for APC

The Rivers State Speaker of the House of Assembly and 15 other lawmakers have officially left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC). The political shift marks a major realignment within the state legislature.

The defecting members cited disagreements with the PDP leadership and alignment with APC policies as reasons for their move. The switch is expected to strengthen APC’s influence in the Rivers State Assembly ahead of upcoming political contests.

Political analysts believe this mass defection could alter legislative decisions and impact governance in Rivers State. The move also underscores the growing trend of party switching among Nigerian politicians in the lead-up to future elections.

APC leaders welcomed the new members, praising their decision and emphasizing the party’s commitment to development and stability in the state. The PDP has yet to issue an official response to the defections.
