A burn specialist from the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) has urged Nigerians to exercise caution to prevent fire accidents on roads and in homes. The expert highlighted that most fire-related injuries are avoidable with proper safety measures.

The burn expert explained that neglecting basic fire safety protocols, such as improper handling of electrical appliances and open flames, increases the risk of accidents. Motorists were also advised to be vigilant on the roads, especially with vehicles carrying flammable materials.

The specialist recommended regular maintenance of electrical systems, safe cooking practices, and having fire extinguishers at homes and workplaces. Public awareness campaigns, the expert stressed, are crucial to reduce the frequency of fire-related emergencies.
