A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has advised the Department of State Services (DSS) against clearing Reno Omokri for any ambassadorial appointment. He argued that Omokri’s past actions and public statements should be reviewed carefully before any approval is given. According to him, Nigeria needs representatives who will protect the country’s image, not individuals with controversial records.
The APC chieftain claimed that Omokri has made comments in the past that do not promote national unity. He insisted that someone seeking an ambassadorial role must show maturity, integrity, and loyalty to the nation. He urged the DSS to conduct a thorough background check to avoid appointing a candidate who may bring embarrassment to the federal government.
He added that Nigeria’s international image is already fragile and should not be placed in the hands of someone whose conduct has raised questions. He stressed that the role of an ambassador requires someone who can defend the nation with dignity and diplomacy. Therefore, he believes Omokri does not fit into that category.
The APC chieftain further encouraged President Bola Tinubu’s administration to consider individuals with clean records and strong patriotic commitment. He said Nigeria needs diplomats who can represent the country positively and foster global partnerships instead of unnecessary controversies.
