Overhaul Nigeria’s border security, community policing systems to tackle worsening insecurity – Obioru urges FG

Security advocate Emmanuel Obioru has called on the Federal Government to urgently reform Nigeria’s border security and community policing systems. He expressed worry over the rising levels of insecurity, stressing that many criminals freely cross the country’s borders because surveillance and enforcement are weak.

Obioru noted that without a complete overhaul of border control operations, Nigeria will continue to struggle with terrorism, banditry, and smuggling. According to him, the federal authorities must invest in modern technology, better training, and stronger monitoring systems to protect the nation’s entry and exit points.

He also emphasized the need to improve community policing, saying that local security structures remain poorly equipped and poorly coordinated. Obioru believes that empowering community officers, improving trust between citizens and security agencies, and ensuring quicker responses to threats will help curb rising crime.

While urging the government to act quickly, he stated that Nigerians deserve a country where safety is guaranteed. Strengthening border control and fixing community policing, he said, are two key steps the government must prioritize to protect lives and restore peace.
