He was asked to step aside – Sowore alleges reason behind Defence Minister’s resignation

Activist Omoyele Sowore has alleged that the recently resigned Defence Minister did not leave office on his own. According to him, the minister was quietly asked to step aside by those in power, suggesting that the resignation may not have been voluntary. Sowore claimed that the public announcement was only a formal way to present the situation.

Sowore hinted that the decision may have been linked to ongoing failures in addressing insecurity across the country. He said many Nigerians have been frustrated with rising attacks, kidnappings, and killings, and the government may have felt pressured to take action. Removing the minister, he added, could be an attempt to show that the administration is responding to public concerns.

He further alleged that internal disagreements within the defence leadership also played a role in the minister’s exit. According to Sowore, there were tensions about strategy, performance, and lack of visible progress in protecting citizens. These behind-the-scenes issues, he said, made the minister’s position increasingly difficult.

Sowore concluded that Nigerians deserve transparency about such major decisions. He insisted that the government should be honest about why key officials leave office, especially when the country is dealing with serious insecurity challenges. He urged citizens to stay alert and continue demanding accountability from leaders at all levels.
