Osun 2026: PDP postpones governorship primary amid crisis

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has postponed its 2026 governorship primary in Osun State following growing internal disagreements within the party. The decision came after several factions raised concerns about the planned process and accused one another of creating division. Party leaders said the postponement would allow time to settle the misunderstandings.

According to insiders, the crisis involves issues of zoning, candidate preference, and leadership control. Some members believe the party must first resolve these tensions to avoid a breakdown during the main election. They stressed that unity is needed if the PDP hopes to present a strong candidate for the 2026 race.

The party’s national leadership is expected to step in and mediate between the rival groups. They urged all stakeholders to put the party’s interest first and ensure that disagreements do not affect the PDP’s chances in the upcoming election. Meetings have been scheduled to address the grievances and find a peaceful resolution.

Despite the crisis, PDP officials assured the public that the party remains committed to conducting a credible and transparent primary. They promised to release a new date soon and expressed hope that all issues would be resolved before the 2026 governorship campaign begins.
