Veteran entertainer and activist Charly Boy has reacted strongly to President Bola Tinubu’s newly released ambassadorial list, which includes Reno Omokri. Speaking on the development, Charly Boy said no Igbo person would feel comfortable visiting or working with an embassy headed by Omokri. His statement has stirred fresh debates on social media.
According to Charly Boy, Omokri has made several comments in the past that many people from the South-East consider offensive. He argued that such remarks have created distrust and that appointing him as an ambassador could worsen tensions. Charly Boy added that leaders should be people who unite, not divide.
The activist also advised the government to be mindful of public perception when making sensitive appointments. He stressed that ambassadors represent Nigeria globally and must reflect fairness, balance, and national unity. Charly Boy said that ignoring the concerns of the Igbo people could fuel more political bitterness.
His comments have attracted mixed reactions, with some Nigerians supporting his stance while others called it unnecessary. Many people believe the government should focus on competence, while others insist that character and past behaviour must also be considered in public appointments. The conversation continues as the nation awaits the Senate’s final confirmation.
