‘They know the terrain’ – Sani urges deployment of security personnel to home states

Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has advised the Nigerian government to start deploying security operatives to their home states, saying they understand the terrain better. He explained that knowing the culture, language, and major routes of a region can help operatives respond faster to emergencies and prevent violent attacks.

Sani noted that many security challenges escalate because officers are often sent to areas where they have little knowledge of the environment. According to him, sending them back to their home states will improve intelligence gathering, community cooperation, and overall confidence in the fight against insecurity.

He added that the current security structure needs reform, especially in regions troubled by bandits, insurgents, and kidnappers. Sani believes that officers familiar with local terrain can easily detect suspicious movements and work hand-in-hand with residents to stop criminal groups before they strike.

The former lawmaker also urged the government to provide better equipment, welfare packages, and training for the personnel. He stressed that fighting insecurity requires both strong manpower and proper support systems to protect the lives of Nigerians.
